The Comic
Your death is my living.
"A lovefeast seeks to strengthen the bonds and the spirit of harmony, goodwill, and congeniality, as well as to forgive past disputes and instead love one another."
—Wikipedia
Picture this: you're in a strange, new place. Everyone, especially the guy you like, seems to think you're "odd". You're encountered by myths on a daily basis. Oh, and you're a death god now.
At the Institution for Training in the Arts of Death, people who have renounced their former lives struggle to maintain their own personages while training to become Gods of Death. The history of the Institute is interwoven with many successes but also with many complex relationships and personal hardships, so it becomes easy to lose sight of good, mercy, and the highest of loves—especially when one lives to deal with death and that beyond.
This comic was created not only for the sake of action and beauty in diversity (and sometimes comedy as well), but to see how such normal people would undergo their transformation to Gods of Death while still trying to be themselves. How do their morals adjust? How is their view of the world affected? What new phenomena do they discover? What becomes of their past issues? Are they limited, or have they been made more free?
And will Shinigami history repeat itself?
"Eat, drink, and be merry...for tomorrow, you die."
Rated M.

Basically, it's like this:

All within reasonably good taste. Most of the time.
Disclaimer
I do not condone many of the worser actions of my characters, as they are slowly becoming beings transcendant of humans and human traits. As dealers in death, they acquire minds that consider many things and situations beyond what we face. I would also note that all of this is made-up fiction, including the concepts of spirituality created for this story and characters' ideologies, however realistic.
This is also not a site for pornography of any sort. If you came here looking for that, too bad.

Although there is some not-so-kid-friendly, NSFW stuff.

A high school kid is suddenly thrust into Shinigami-dom.
Okay, so I've only ever watched three episodes of Bleach, and I haven't read it at all. But those three eps I watched were enough to inspire me to do something cool with the concept of death gods. I'm becoming less and less a fan of Japanese storytelling (it's refreshing sometimes, but not all the time), so I guess that's why I wanted to take the idea and do something slightly different (within the genre of death god related comics). Should watch more of it one of these days.

Five stories about grown men and their relationships.
Probably the best BL I've ever read (unrelated honorable mention - I Can't Stop Loving You!, which I also really enjoyed) - mature, wistful, with a touch of melancholy. Another angle on daily lives, what love could have been; creative, compelling, touching, you'll want to own this.
Where's the influence? Well, LOVEFEAST isn't all about young love and boyish fantasies, either.

A rockstar's rise to fame...and homosexual relationships.
My first BL manga (isn't it everyone's?), and still one of my favorites. You just know the author is out of her mind - the characters' emotions are so wildly portrayed, and the scenarios are pretty wacky at that. You can tell the author had fun with it. You'll never forget Shuuichi's antics once you see it. A part of me will always love it. Fun fact: I don't own all of the manga yet, for some reason. The anime is a tad more disappointing (deserved more than 13 episodes, at least). I also cosplayed Shuuichi at my first two anime cons ever, two separate years at MTAC.

Shinigami making sure those marked to die actually die.
I learned of it as Yami no Matsuei, and it's probably my favorite anime series ever. Unfortunately, I have yet to finish the manga (or read much of it at all...gotta stop draggin' my feet), and apparently it was never finished at all, but the animated series (which is also way too short) has a lot of connection to me. Ah, those were the days. Tsuzuki is still one of my favorite characters in anything (but I never cared much for Hisoka, heh).

If you know anything about Soul Eater, you know it's yet another series relating to Shinigami.
In this case, a real Shinigami is training human beings to fight off demons/kishin at a wonderful, college-like weapons training facility. Sound familiar? I actually learned of this series after I started developing LOVEFEAST, and I love its style (in the anime, particularly; the manga doesn't catch me), but its more plot-oriented and social aspects are almost nonexistent. But I love it anyway. I'm cosplaying Maka soon.

A Shinigami's dropped notebook grants a bored high school honors student the ability to kill anyone he's seen and has knowledge of their name. Hilarity ensues. A series about pride.
Actually, this doesn't have much direct influence on LOVEFEAST at all. I just thought I'd mention it.

The rich and disillusioned host club's new "dog" turns out to be a beauty, not just a beast.
Just thought I'd mention this one, too. This is turning into a "recommended" list. I actually haven't read the manga yet, but I've seen the anime, and it's a lot better than I expected. One of those actual constant laugh-out-loud series, quirky and somehow touching, this one grew on me quickly.

Love, school, and...bombs.
This series is great. I don't care who you are. Just watch it. Very few things cause me to laugh out loud. This made me do it a lot. Influence-wise, well, its action, cleverness, animation, and subtle character development are fantastic for such a short series. It's something I dream of.

Pierce the heavens with your XXX!
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Who isn't inspired by it? One of few TV shows that has repeatedly given me spine tinglies for one reason or another. It gets you fired up! (Honorable Mention: FLCL, also made by Gainax, is just as awesome.)

A comedian died Friday in New York.
I just recently read it, spurred on to purchase it by the movie to see what did and did not do it justice, and the leagues of backstory and info left out on-screen. It connects to me on a personal level because of its execution - mindful of every step, able to frame the big things as well as the small. How someone could do something so grand in graphic novel format is beyond me.
I can't say there is a lot of direct influence, but I just love the way the story is done. To think I almost never read it.
